Beloved Clergy, Faithful, and People of Goodwill,
Christ is in our midst! He is and ever shall be!
Each year on Veterans Day, our nation pauses in solemn gratitude to honor the men and women of the Armed Forces of the United States of America - those who have offered their strength, their youth, and in many cases their very lives in service to the nation we call home. They stood - and continue to stand - as guardians of the ideals of freedom, dignity, human rights, and the sanctity of life.
Many of these brave veterans live quietly among us: in our neighborhoods, our parishes, and sometimes even sitting in the next pew on Sunday morning. Their service did not end when their military duty was completed; they continue to lead by example, demonstrating discipline, integrity, courage, and responsibility. Their lives teach us what it means to be responsible citizens—grateful for the freedom we enjoy and committed to defending it in word and action.
This year, we are especially honored to observe Veterans Day at the Spiritual Center of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA in South Bound Brook, NJ, at the Ukrainian American Veterans National Monument - a sacred place of remembrance and prayer. It stands as a solemn reminder that countless men and women of Ukrainian descent served with distinction in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, defending liberty not only for this nation but for people throughout the world. We offer heartfelt gratitude for their sacrifice and for the legacy of devotion they have left us.
To our veterans: You defended what is most precious. You guarded what is most vulnerable. You showed what it means to place others before yourself.
As Orthodox Christians, let us honor them not only with respectful words, but with tangible acts:
- Speak gratitude to the veterans in your lives.
- Offer assistance where needed.
- Teach the younger generations that freedom is never without sacrifice.
The Lord Himself teaches us that greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends (John 15:13). Veterans live this Gospel truth.
May this day inspire all of us to perform our duty, to serve where we are called, and - by God’s grace - to give of ourselves for the good of others. May our parishes be places where veterans find prayer, support, and heartfelt appreciation.

Щороку в День Ветеранів наша країна зупиняється в урочистій подяці, щоб вшанувати чоловіків і жінок Збройних Сил Сполучених Штатів Америки - тих, хто віддав свої сили, молодість, а нерідко й саме життя на служіння країні, яку ми називаємо домом. Вони стояли - і продовжують стояти - як захисники ідеалів свободи, гідності, прав людини та святості життя.
Багато з цих відважних ветеранів тихо живуть серед нас: у наших містах, громадах, сім’ях і поруч із нами у храмі під час недільної молитви. Їхнє служіння не завершилося зі звільненням з армії; вони продовжують вести прикладом - дисципліною, чесністю, мужністю та відповідальністю. Їхнє життя навчає нас, що означає бути відповідальними громадянами - вдячними за свободу, яку маємо, та готовими захищати її словом і ділом.
Цьогоріч ми маємо особливу честь відзначати День Ветеранів у духовному осередку Української Православної Церкви США в Саут-Баунд-Бруку, Нью-Джерзі, біля Національного Меморіалу Українсько-Американських Ветеранів - святого місця пам’яті та молитви. Цей памʼятник постійно нагадує про те, що незліченна кількість чоловіків і жінок українського походження служили з честю у всіх родах Збройних Сил Сполучених Штатів, захищаючи свободу не лише цієї країни, але й багатьох інших народів світу. Ми складаємо наші щирі слова подяки за їхню жертву та спадщину відданості.
Звертаємося до наших ветеранів: Ви захищали те, що є найціннішим. Ви оберігали те, що є найвразливішим. Ви показали, що означає ставити інших вище за себе.
Як православні християни, вшануємо їх не лише словами, але й ділами:
- висловлюймо ветеранам слова подяки;
- допомагаймо тим, хто цього потребує;
- виховуймо молодь у розумінні, що свобода - це завжди жертва.
Сам Господь навчає: «Немає більшої любові над ту, коли хто душу свою кладе за друзів своїх» (Ів. 15:13). Ветерани втілюють цю Євангельську істину.
Нехай цей день надихне кожного з нас виконувати свій обов’язок, служити там, де Господь нас покликав, і -благодаттю Божою - дарувати себе в служінні іншим. Нехай наші парафії стануть місцем, де ветерани знайдуть молитву, підтримку та щиру вдячність.
