In times when the world seems filled with darkness, it is the small lights of mercy that remind us that God continues to act through human hearts. Amid the daily news of war, destruction, and loss, there are stories that reveal another side of human life - the side of love, compassion, and sacrifice. Such a story unfolded during a visit to the unbreakable city of Marhanets, a city located just a few kilometers from the positions of the occupying army.

Here, sirens have become part of everyday life. Here, the sound of explosions sometimes replaces the laughter of children. Yet even under such circumstances, people do not lose their faith, and children do not lose their ability to dream.

It was here that clergy and volunteers arrived, hoping to bring even the smallest ray of joy.

Rev. Fr. Serhii Kramarenko, together with Fr. Maksym Kuznietcov, visited a family-type children’s home where eleven children are being raised. All of them come from families that were unable to provide them with the love, care, and safety they deserved. Now the state and dedicated caregivers look after them, becoming for them a true family.

When the volunteers brought fruit, vitamins, and sweets, it seemed like very simple things. But when a small child gently held a tangerine and quietly said, “Thank you for coming…” in that moment it became clear that even the smallest act of love can become a great celebration for someone.

For these children, the gifts themselves are not the most important thing. What matters is knowing that they are not forgotten - that somewhere there are people who pray for them, think about them, and extend a helping hand.

In these days, the words of Fr. Serhii Kramarenko’s sermon, delivered on the Sunday of the Paralytic, resonate with particular depth. His words became a spiritual explanation of what is happening in Ukraine today.

“Brothers and sisters, today’s Gospel tells us about a man who was paralyzed - without the strength to move. He could not come to Christ by himself. His friends brought him. When they saw that they could not pass through the crowd, they did something extraordinary - they removed the roof and lowered him directly before Jesus. And Christ, seeing their faith, said words that surprised everyone: ‘Your sins are forgiven.’ He did not begin with the healing of the body, because Christ knows that the greatest illness of a person is not the illness of the body. The most terrible paralysis is the paralysis of the soul.”

Fr. Serhii continued, drawing attention to the reality of war: “Today we live in a time when many people feel like that paralytic. War exhausts us. Every day brings news of the fallen. Every day new graves. Every day the tears of mothers. Some are paralyzed by fear. Some by pain. Some by despair. And in such moments it becomes very easy to give up.”

Yet the Gospel reveals another path.

“The paralytic was carried by his friends. He could not go himself - but they did not abandon him. They carried him on their shoulders. And you know… this greatly resembles what is happening in Ukraine today. When a soldier collapses from exhaustion, his brother-in-arms supports him. When someone loses a home, volunteers come. When a family experiences grief, other people stand beside them. We carry one another. And this is exactly what the living Gospel looks like.”

He concluded with words of hope: “Perhaps today we cannot lift the entire country. But each of us can do something very important. We can carry one another. This is how people are saved. This is how nations are saved. And I believe that if we stand together, the day will come when the Lord will say to our people: ‘Rise.’ And Ukraine will rise. And it will live.”

Another place where love met pain was the Oncohematology Department of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital.

Children suffering from various forms of cancer receive treatment here. Young patients arrive from the Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions - places where proper treatment has become impossible because of the war.

On this day, 23 children received gifts: soft toys and sets of lactose-free dairy products - foods that they are permitted to consume during treatment. Yet the greatest gift for them was prayer, support, and words of hope.

When you enter this ward, your heart tightens with pain. Doctors speak honestly: because of the severity of this illness, nearly one-third of the children you see today may never be seen again.

This is why help, care, and prayer are not simply gestures of support. For these children and their families, they are a sign that they are not left alone with their suffering.

Words of gratitude and a spiritual appeal were also expressed by His Eminence Archbishop Daniel of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, who blesses the humanitarian mission assisting children and those suffering because of the war:

“In times of great trials, the Lord looks especially into the human heart. Where there is mercy, there is the presence of God. When we extend a hand to a suffering child, when we support the sick, when we remember those who have lost their homes - we become co-workers of God’s love in the world.
These children who grow up under the sound of sirens have the right to hope, to joy, and to a future. Every act of love helps them believe that the world has not abandoned them.”

The importance of this mission was also emphasized by Protodeacon Ihor Makhlai, president of the St. Andrew Society of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, the Church organization that provided the assistance:

“When we help children, we touch the very heart of the Gospel. Christ said: ‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’ That is why our ministry is not simply humanitarian aid. It is the expression of a living faith that acts through love.”

Another journey is already being planned - to the village of Solone, where another family-type home is located. Eleven children with cerebral palsy live there, children who require special attention, care, and love.

And it is here that each of us can become part of this story of goodness. War can take away peace. It can destroy cities. But it cannot take away humanity.

Today each of us can become one of those friends from the Gospel who carried the paralytic to Christ.

Perhaps we cannot stop the war. But we can support a child. We can give hope. We can save a heart from despair.

Дитинство Під Сиренами: Коли Любов Стає Відповіддю На Біль

У часи, коли світ здається наповненим темрявою, саме маленькі вогники милосердя нагадують нам, що Бог продовжує діяти через людські серця. Серед щоденних новин про війну, руйнування і втрати є історії, які відкривають іншу сторону людського життя - сторону любові, співчуття і жертовності. Саме такою історією стала поїздка до незламного міста Марганець - міста, що знаходиться всього за кілька кілометрів від позицій окупаційної армії.

Тут сирени стали частиною буденного життя. Тут звук вибухів іноді замінює дитячий сміх. Але навіть у таких обставинах люди не втрачають віри, а діти - здатності мріяти.

Саме сюди разом із священнослужителями та волонтерами прибули ті, хто прагне принести бодай маленький промінь радості.

Священник Сергій Крамаренко, разом із отцем Максимом Кузнєцовим, відвідали будинок сімейного типу, де виховуються одинадцять дітей. Усі вони походять із родин, які не змогли подарувати їм необхідної любові, турботи та безпеки. Тепер про них піклується держава і вихователі, які стали для них родиною.

Коли волонтери привезли фрукти, вітаміни та солодощі, здавалося, що це лише прості речі. Але коли маленька дитина, обережно тримаючи мандарин, тихо сказала:
«Дякую, що ви приїхали…» - у цей момент стає зрозуміло, що навіть найменший жест любові може стати для когось великим святом.

Цим дітям важливі не лише подарунки. Їм важливо знати, що вони не забуті. Що десь є люди, які моляться за них, думають про них і простягають руку допомоги.

У ці дні особливо глибоко звучать слова проповіді отця Сергія Крамаренка, виголошені в неділю про розслабленого. Його слова стали духовним поясненням того, що відбувається сьогодні в Україні.

“Брати і сестри, сьогоднішнє Євангеліє розповідає нам про людину, яка була розслаблена. Паралізована. Без сили рухатися. Він не міг сам прийти до Христа. Його принесли друзі. І коли вони побачили, що через натовп пройти неможливо, вони зробили щось неймовірне - розібрали дах і спустили його просто перед Ісусом. І Христос, побачивши їхню віру, сказав слова, які здивували всіх: «Відпускаються тобі гріхи твої». Він не починає зі зцілення тіла. Бо Христос знає: найбільша хвороба людини - це не хвороба тіла. Найстрашніший параліч - це параліч душі.”

Отець Сергій продовжив, звертаючи увагу на реальність війни: “Ми сьогодні живемо в час, коли дуже багато людей почуваються так, як той розслаблений. Війна виснажує. Щодня новини про загиблих. Щодня нові могили. Щодня сльози матерів. Хтось паралізований страхом. Хтось - болем. Хтось - відчаєм. І дуже легко в такому стані опустити руки.”

Проте Євангеліє відкриває нам іншу дорогу.

“Розслабленого принесли друзі. Він сам не міг. Але вони його не залишили. Вони взяли його на свої плечі. І знаєте… це дуже нагадує те, що сьогодні відбувається в Україні. Коли солдат падає від втоми - його підтримує побратим. Коли людина втрачає дім - приходять волонтери. Коли сім’я переживає горе - поруч стають інші люди. Ми несемо один одного. І саме так виглядає жива Євангелія.”

Його проповідь завершилася словами надії: “Можливо, сьогодні ми не можемо підняти всю країну. Але кожен із нас може зробити щось дуже важливе. Ми можемо нести один одного. Бо саме так рятуються люди. Саме так рятуються народи. І я вірю: якщо будемо триматися разом - прийде день, коли Господь скаже і нашому народові: ‘Встань’. І Україна встане. І буде жити.”

Ще одним місцем, де любов зустрілася з болем, стало відділення онкогематології Дніпропетровської обласної дитячої клінічної лікарні.

Тут лікуються діти з різними формами онкологічних захворювань. Маленькі пацієнти прибувають сюди з Донецької, Харківської та Дніпропетровської областей - з місць, де лікування стало неможливим через війну.

Цього дня 23 дитини отримали подарунки: м’які іграшки та набори безлактозної молочної продукції - саме ті продукти, які дозволено споживати під час лікування.

Але найбільшим подарунком для них стали молитва, підтримка і слова надії.

Коли входиш до цього відділення, серце стискається. Бо лікарі чесно говорять: через важкість цієї хвороби приблизно третину дітей, яких бачиш сьогодні, можеш більше ніколи не зустріти.

Саме тому допомога, турбота і молитва - це не просто жест підтримки. Для цих дітей і їхніх родин це знак того, що вони не залишені сам на сам зі своїм болем.

Зворушливі слова подяки та духовного заклику прозвучали від архієпископа Даниїла УПЦ США, який благословляє гуманітарну місію допомоги дітям та постраждалим від війни:

“У часи великих випробувань Господь особливо дивиться на серце людини. Там, де є милосердя - там є присутність Бога. Коли ми простягаємо руку допомоги дитині, яка страждає, коли підтримуємо хворого, коли не забуваємо тих, хто залишився без дому - ми стаємо співпрацівниками Божої любові у світі.

Ці діти, які ростуть під звуки сирен, мають право на надію, на радість і на майбутнє. І кожен наш жест любові допомагає їм повірити, що світ не залишив їх самих.”

Про важливість цієї місії наголосив також протодиякон Ігор Махлай, голова Товариства Святого Андрія Первозванного Української Православної Церкви США - організації Церкви котра надала допомогу: “Коли ми допомагаємо дітям, ми торкаємося самого серця Євангелія. Христос сказав: ‘Що ви зробили одному з найменших братів Моїх - Мені зробили’. Саме тому наше служіння - це не просто гуманітарна допомога. Це прояв живої віри, яка діє через любов.”

Попереду ще одна поїздка - до села Солоне, де знаходиться будинок сімейного типу, у якому проживають одинадцять дітей із ДЦП. Ці діти потребують особливої турботи, уваги і любові.

І саме тут кожен із нас може стати частиною цієї історії добра.

Бо війна може забрати спокій. Вона може зруйнувати міста. Але вона не може забрати людяність.

Сьогодні кожен із нас може стати одним із тих друзів із Євангелія, які принесли розслабленого до Христа.

Можливо, ми не можемо зупинити війну. Але ми можемо підтримати дитину. Можемо подарувати надію. Можемо врятувати чиєсь серце від відчаю.

Тому щиро запрошуємо долучатися до цієї справи милосердя.

Кожна пожертва - велика чи маленька - стає частиною перемоги добра.

І, можливо, саме ваша допомога стане для якоїсь дитини тим світлом, яке допоможе пережити темну ніч війни.

Бо там, де є любов - там уже починається Божа перемога.
